Lumines sequel confirmed
According to an E3 video preview hosted by Steve Truitt and Diane Mizota of PlayStation Underground, a
Lumines sequel is in development and will likely be (officially) revealed at E3. About one minute into the
video, Truitt confirms, "The PSP system is revolutionizing portable gaming with titles like ... Lumines
2." There you have it, folks.Don't believe us? Just read the fine print in the document Truitt's holding (pictured).

... "revolutionizing" ? PSP? hmm.

"The PSP system is revolutionizing portable gaming with titles like ... Lumines 2.""
Ummm..yea...you keep thinking that Sony.
Overall though I can't wait for Lumines 2...and better have some freakin' INFRASTRUCTURE online play and not the usual Ad hoc crap.
striderhayasa @ Apr 25th 2006 5:46PM
LOL, revolutionizing? Really? Lumines is a good game but I wouldn't go that far. Now about the Meteos 2 with online play...
fanjob @ Apr 25th 2006 5:51PM
With games like Lumines 2 and Tekken Dark Ressurection, who needs a DS?
Babylonian @ Apr 25th 2006 5:51PM
Yeah, it's good to see that I'm not the only one who finds it funny that the PSP is the only system where a game with '2' in the title could be considered revolutionary. They're really stretching now.
jay @ Apr 25th 2006 6:06PM
"who needs a DS?" People who want to play more than 2 good games, clearly.
Babylonian @ Apr 25th 2006 6:18PM
The first three comments on this article prove that the star system follows zero logic.
Sabre @ Apr 25th 2006 6:25PM
HAHA bingo Jay!

Honestly tho there are more then 2 good games on the PSP, but the DS has had more games (in my opinion) that have more replay value.
Veok @ Apr 25th 2006 6:30PM
Well, Lumines and Meteos WERE made by the same company. I couldn't be bothered to find sales figures, but if Meteos sold anything close to what Lumines sold... I'm predicting another sequel from... Q is it? Whatever. *crosses fingers*
SonicRift @ Apr 25th 2006 6:47PM
Lumines is great as it is. Why change it? The only thing I see them doing is changing the music and sound effects... Anything else, and they'll end up with something like Tetris 2... What a disaster...
So they're already out of ideas for new games? I was really hoping for a good PSP showing at E3. Remakes and sequals will only hold me for so long...

"With games like Lumines 2 and Tekken Dark Ressurection, who needs a DS?"
Maybe people that want to play New Super Mario Bros, FF III, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom hourglass.

He was joking, duh. Get it? Because the psp has a bunch of shit titles and the DS doesn't?
careon @ Apr 25th 2006 7:08PM
the DS? are you guys serious? that thing sucks and it ain't worth my money I had to return it and get my money back because all the games for it sucked.
SLy @ Apr 25th 2006 7:08PM
#4 was clearly being sarcastic.
PSP owners are so desperate at the moment that they'll buy this even if the only difference is the packaging.
Lee @ Apr 25th 2006 7:17PM
Badmouth the PSP all you like, and rightly so, but the DS' main competition is Mario Kart. Other than that? Little to offer.
DS has more titles over the horizon, but in general handheld gaming has taken a huge dive. Shiny screen/good graphics VS touch screen that deserves more than the gimmicky implementation it's thus received. Sort yourselves out, a 2D platformer from years ago and a sequel to an (albeit addictive puzzle game) aren't enough.
Crisis Core (if it ever happens) and Zelda interest me, but really, my DS and PSP are lying around doing very little, apart from the occasional episode of something on my PSP and the occasional mediocre DS game I pick up...
bounchfx @ Apr 25th 2006 7:20PM
lumines 2 should be on ds... fk psp, they already have one.
wbz @ Apr 25th 2006 7:20PM
Just because you guys are either over 25 years old or are nintendo fanbois doesn't mean that there aren't tons of little kiddies who give jack shit about the next mario/final fantasy but care alot about Madden 2009.
rubaiyat @ Apr 25th 2006 7:23PM
Or
Phoenix Wright
Trauma Center
Any of the Brain Age games coming out
Online Animal Crossing
Prime: Hunters
What exactly is mediocre about any of these??
bounchfx @ Apr 25th 2006 7:23PM
"He was joking, duh. Get it? Because the psp has a bunch of shit titles and the DS doesn't?"
hey, and because the ds has a bunch of shit titles too doesn't mean it's lacking in good ones, like, oh, my friend the psp. DS has a number of quality titles out unlike sonys newest portable mediocrity machine. Lumines 2 will be awesome but they really should bring it multiplatform, that game is too good to stay just on that system.
psp is great if you want to carry around 15 songs, maybe a movie, and a bunch of dumbed down ps2 games.
rubaiyat @ Apr 25th 2006 7:27PM
If you cared about Madden...you'd play it on the Xbox360 or PS2.
And how is Final Fantasy on the DS ignorable...but heaven help us if there is a Final Fantasy game released for the PSP??
Michael @ Apr 25th 2006 7:27PM
god, these fanboys.
Anyway, I noticed the Lumines 2 thing also when I watched the video earlier. I was like "!!!"
I was wondering if maybe they were referring to Every Extend Extra... but that's pretty unlikely.
Can't wait for both!
jay @ Apr 25th 2006 7:29PM
Is it just me that feels that the PSP is the PS2 but with people seeing clearly?
Maybe it was just me, but I had a PS2 near launch and didn't enjoy any of the games as much as the PS1 or some Dreamcast titles. I sold that on and bought another about 3 years later. Still nothing really pulled me in. Ico and that Colossus game were very good though, but not enough to keep me to a system. Exactly like Lumines and... I'm stuck here.
Sabre @ Apr 25th 2006 8:11PM
The DS has PLENTY of quality titles (in addition to Mario Kart)...wish I could say the same for the PSP (and I own both.)
Rafi @ Apr 26th 2006 6:18AM
We need the ability to start midway into Championship mode! Damn annoying starting songs...grr...
Aceflash11 @ Apr 26th 2006 8:16AM
what! these people ae scarying me. This is LUMINES, one of the best games for the psp. Hype it up but please don't discuss how its not revolutionizing gaming. They are basically saying that it is a great game and it will bring more people to play it.
Wild Homes @ Apr 26th 2006 9:15AM
if you combined roughly half the posts in this thread you could create one post comprised of sensible english. seriously, are any of you guys native english speakers, or did you spend too much time trolling forums to learn how to write?
the PSP doesn't have much in the way of quality games. and it's got a real problem now that LCS is coming to the PS2. I did, however, enjoy the recent article about the valuation of the GTA franchise, wherein some analyst said the estimated value of Grand Theft Auto was predicated on the expected release of five PSP GTA titles in the next five years. So have fun with your GTA, and your unceasing ocean of PS1 and PS2 ports (Gitaroo Man Live, anyone?) and if you haven't ever considered it before: Sony has filled the PSP with ports of preexisting games, is planning the downloadable PS1-on-PSP service, and they're pushing the UMD versions of movies and the BR editions of movies and the like and they're really big on GETTING YOU TO PURCHASE THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN. it's like having to buy your car over again every time you want to drive it.
for those of you scoring at home: if you paid $250 for this multimedia disaster, you've hit into an unassisted triple play.
